ConnectWise Administrators have jumped at upgrading their Email Connector “Connections” however most are failing to do this final step!
Remove your IMAP Connections
Overview: IMAP vs O365 / Google Email
The ConnectWise PSA Email Connector actually consists of two functional parts.
A. Mailbox Connection (Email Server Side)
B. Email Connector ( ConnectWise Server Side)
Why use the new O365 or Google Email connections?
In short, security. Microsoft and Google have intentions to disallow any future connections using IMAP with basic authentication.
The new O365 and Google Email connections are based on the newer API connections. They are extremely simple to setup and function the same or better than the IMAP connections.
Issue we keep seeing: IMAP Connections still existing with O365 / Google Email in place.
Resolution: Once the new connection is setup and properly authorized, simply delete the corresponding IMAP Connection.
While it is unknown if a duplicate email connection will cause any problems, it’s simply good practice to not have any duplicate connections.
Why still use IMAP Connections?
There is still a need for IMAP connections as many providers still use On-Premises Email Systems or Third Party (Non-Microsoft/Google) Systems. It is also possible to have both types of email connections in place, just not duplicated!
