People often ask why we start every PSA implementation by talking about accounting instead of service boards, ticket workflows, or automation.
The answer goes back to why Visionary 360 was founded.
Long before Visionary 360 existed, we were members of an MSP peer group. One of the initiatives the group had taken on was implementing Service Leadership Index (SLI). That meant redesigning the Chart of Accounts so financial reporting was consistent and meaningful across the business.
What quickly became obvious was that updating the accounting system wasn’t enough.
If the PSA wasn’t configured to support that financial structure, the reporting would never be accurate.
Every agreement, product, labor code, procurement transaction, and invoice had to map correctly. If the destination was changing, the operational system feeding it had to change too.
That experience changed how we looked at PSA implementations forever.
The question was no longer, “How do we configure the software?”
It became, “What are we building this system to report?”
Because if you don’t know what you’re mapping to, how can you properly build the system?
That philosophy became the foundation of every implementation we’ve delivered since.
Software Should Support the Business, Not Define It
Whether we’re implementing ConnectWise PSA, HaloPSA, or another PSA platform, our first objective is understanding how the business operates financially.
Not because accounting is the most important department.
Because every operational decision eventually becomes a financial transaction.
A technician enters time.
A project ships hardware.
An agreement invoices automatically.
Products are purchased.
Labor is allocated.
Individually, they look like everyday operational tasks. Collectively, they tell the financial story of the business.
If that story isn’t designed first, the PSA simply automates bad assumptions.
More Than a Methodology
Helping members of that peer group rebuild their financial structure led to something unexpected.
They encouraged us to take what we were doing and offer it professionally.
That encouragement eventually became Visionary 360, one of the first consulting firms dedicated to ConnectWise implementations.
The software has evolved over the years, and today we work across multiple PSA platforms, including HaloPSA.
What hasn’t changed is the philosophy that started it all.
Understand the financial destination first.
Then build the PSA to get you there.
